Durango Herald June 28, 1930 MARY ANN SMITH DIES AT A LOCAL HOSPITAL TODAY Mrs. Mary Ann Smith of Bayfield, passed away at 1:30 this morning at a local hospital, following an illness which extended over a period of several years. The deceased was born in Wisconsin on November 10, 1853. She became the bride of John C. Smith on October 10, 1867. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to Kansas where they resided until 1905 when they moved to La Plata County, locating in what is known as the Missouri Center section, southeast of Bayfield. Her husband preceded her in death, having been called to the Great Beyond on April 15, 1927. Mrs. Smith is survived by four sons, John E. Smith of Chanute, Kans.; Arthur G. Smith, of Fort Scott, Kans.; and J. L. Smith and M. E. Smith, of Bayfield; and three daughters, Mrs. Ada E. Vinsonhaler of Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. M. [Madge] E. Baker and Mrs. Alta Briggs, of Bayfield. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon at the Bayfield Presbyterian church; the Latter Day Saints will have charge of the services.
